The Financial Game of Life

Story and photos by Oliver Adkins ’28

During the Winter Term at MICDS, seventh and eighth graders were given the opportunity to take the course the Financial Game of Life. This course teaches students how to “buy cars, rent apartments, and buy houses,” said Elias Tanane ’28. Also, this course teaches students the basics of taxes and how to fill out a tax form. Middle School Math Teacher Steve Looten thinks this course is important because “It teaches the students how to save and invest their money at a young age. And how to save and budget later on in life.”

The students then worked on how to fill out tax forms on paper. The students listened to the teacher’s presentations and played fun games about managing their finances on their computers. Cooper Monroe ’28 will use this course to “learn how to spend my money later in life.” And Yash Bellam ’28 says this class “teaches him how to plan for the future.”

This Winter Term course will leave a lifelong impression on the students who took this class.
