The Upper School Halloween Hustle

Trick or Treat! The Upper School at MICDS was anything but spooky today; it was positively RAM-bunctious! Our students and faculty fully embraced the ghoulish vibe with a spectacular parade of costumes. The day was packed with fang-tastic moments, including the always-anticipated senior skits, spirited games, and a surprise performance from faculty that dusted off their disco skills.

Parading into the North Gym, seniors showed off their costumes, from jesters and mall cops to movie characters and current trends (yes, even “6-7”). STUCO leaders led the Upper School students through a vote on the best senior costume. The winner was “Paul Blart,” Segway and all, from the box office hit and cult classic movie, Mall Cop. Students also participated in a sing-along contest to Party in the USA; whichever class knew the lyrics the best and could sing them with the most spirit won. Unsurprisingly, the seniors took the prize! The games wrapped up with a high-stakes mummy contest, sending toilet-paper ribbons flying during a frantic dash to the finish line.

This year, the Upper School celebration was bolstered by a service-oriented event: the Roper Romp. Several faculty and staff members arrived on the scene dressed as the iconic Mr. and Mrs. Roper characters from the classic sitcom Three’s Company, complete with colorful caftans and curly red wigs. The Romp kicked off the assembly with an impressive group dance to The Hustle! Additionally, in partnership with the Community Service Committee, the Romp group, along with other faculty and students, generated a large donation of diapers and baby wipes for Nurses for Newborns.

The fun didn’t stop there: students caught a special lunchtime screening of the 1988 classic, Beetlejuice, complete with popcorn, cookies, and apple cider. (Pssst…the stage version of Beetlejuice is coming to Orthwein Theatre at MICDS later in November!) The excitement of Halloween also spilled out into the halls with a festive door decorating contest.

The Upper School proved once again that nobody brings the spirit quite like our Rams. Happy Halloween, all!
