Upper School French Students Try Out Their Chef Skills

Upper School French classes held their 4th annual Fête de la gastronomie (French Food Festival) throughout the day on Wednesday. Each year, students prepare classic French or French-inspired desserts to share with their classmates. This year was special because faculty and staff were invited to join as tasting judges.

„We were really glad other faculty and staff joined us this year as tasting judges, as we’ve been looking for ways to expand this celebration into more of a community-wide event,“ said French teacher Dr. Steven Crumb.

In each class, a handful of awards were given for best presentation, most daring dessert and best overall dessert, to name a few. Two to three adults joined as judges to try out what the students had whipped up and helped give awards. Some of the desserts that the students whipped up included meringues, apple tarts, madeleines, bûches de Noël (Yule logs), almond pastries, profiteroles, pain au chocolat, macarons and much more!

In addition to trying desserts, the students were quizzed on French cuisine-inspired questions and were encouraged to speak and answer questions in French for the entirety of the festival.
