Second, third and fourth graders, accompanied by their parents, explored the world of computer language and technology at the first Beasley Family Coding Night. Coding is an important skill that can be learned at any age. Problem solving, logic and systems thinking, creativity, and perseverance are present in so many of our learning experiences at Beasley. This event provided a great opportunity to get the family involved in the application of these skills through computer coding.
Janet McMillion, Head of the Lower Schoool, shared „Learning to be creators with technology rather than just consumers is a key aspect of our approach, and coding is one way to do this. Programming with technology occurs in both our science and computer curriculum in the Lower School.“
Thank you to our Lower School Coordinator of Instructional Technology, Greg Stevens, who created the „Hour of Code“ activity for parents and students to learn and practice side by side. Also, kudos to our Lower School Science Teacher and FLL Coach Christy Moore, JK-12 Science Department Chair Bob Shaw, and Upper School Math Teacher Janet Purdy who all helped plan and host the event.
