Campus Closed to Students 1/28

Read Details

Missouri American Water informed our staff today that they will begin repairs on the ruptured water main just northeast of campus on Warson Road at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. They advised us that MICDS could lose water service to most buildings either intermittently or throughout the duration of the repair, which is scheduled to last most of the day. Until they begin the repair, they cannot predict with confidence the scale or duration of the resulting water outage. Because of the uncertainty of the impact of this water main repair on our facilities, MICDS will be closed to all students tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, during the school day. Information about after-school activities and athletics is currently unknown and will be communicated at a later time. Especially given this week’s inclement weather disruptions, I regret the necessity of tomorrow’s school-day closure and appeal to you for understanding. We will run a normal 8:00 a.m. start time on Thursday and a 9:00 a.m. late-start time on Friday in all three divisions. In the Middle and Upper Schools, Thursday will be an A day to pair with today's H day, and Friday will be a B9 day. On Monday, we will run a D day as originally scheduled. Thank you for your partnership and understanding. We will be back in touch with you should there be any changes to Missouri American’s water main repair schedule.

Rams Make Their Own T-Shirts

Story and Photos by: Saman Ansari ’30

Fifth and sixth graders chose Make Your Own T-Shirt for Winter term; they worked on making t-shirts with prints.

Art Teacher Mrs. Vogel, is teaching Make Your Own T-Shirt. Mrs. Vogel has experience since she is an artist. Because she is an artist she has experience print making. Her goal for the class is to help students learn Printmaking and Make their own t-shirts.

Noelle Bryan ’30 shared her perspective. At first, she was making a fish print named gulp gulp, and she said, “Just keep swimming, gulp gulp.” This quote is saying her fish is going to keep on going, and it will turn out great.

Audrey Moore ’30 said, “ T-shirt making is educational and a fun experience.”

Harper Rodewald ’31 said, “Printmaking is a fun experience with many different steps.”

Printmaking has many steps. The first step is prep: get paint ready and get ready designs. They carve the design with a linoleum carving tool. The second step is to lay paint on the stamp. Third step is to slowly flip the design and push it on the paper, then let it dry. The next step is to prep second layer, and then get the paint and design ready. The fifth step is to lay paint on the stamp. The final step is to slowly flip the design, push it on the paper, then let it dry. Printmaking is harder than it looks, and is so many steps.

They start with choosing what to print on their shirt. Noelle Bryan ’30 made a bear on her shirt. She searched for pictures on Google to give her inspiration. Audrey Moore ’30 made a person swimming. That should be a challenge! She made it because she does swim and it is her hobby. There are so many ideas they can choose from and so many people cheering you on.

All of these students had an amazing time and they worked so hard on making these shirts.

Have fun creating, Rams!
