Frida Kahlo performance

Metro Theater Company Performs Musical for Grades 5 and 6

Fifth and sixth grade classes enjoyed a musical performance on Thursday when the Metro Theater Company visited MICDS! The theater company performed Frida Libre, written by Karen Zacarías with music by Deborah Lapuma. The clever production focused Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and used Dramatic License to alter the facts of her life for artist purposes.

Synopsis from Metro Theater Company:

Inspired by the childhood of legendary Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Frida Libre is the uplifting story of young Frida who plans to become a doctor and her new friend Alex who secretly wishes to be a wrestler. Thrown together on a science project about metamorphosis, the two go on a delightful journey in this musical performance that features original songs and explores the meaning of transformation, bravery, understanding and acceptance.

Metro Theater Company performed at MICDS as part of their fall tour to schools, the downtown library and the Missouri History Museum. If you’re able to see one of their productions, you’re in for a treat!

The mission of the Metro Theater Company is: Inspired by the intelligence and emotional wisdom of young people, we create professional theater, foster inclusive community and nurture meaningful learning through the arts.
