MICDS Students Compete in Junior Olympics

Five MICDS water polo players competed in the Junior Olympics held in Stanford, California at the end of July. Playing on the 18U Mad Dog club team were Billy Barnes (’12), Ellis Brown, Sean Gallagher, and Lunsford Schock (’13), while Tommy Stupp (’14) played for the 16U Mad Dog team.

Both St. Louis teams qualified at the Championship level of the Junior Olympics and played against 48 of the best clubs in the country. The 18U team finished 17th overall in the Championship Gold division, and the 16U team finished 13th.

“I am looking forward to the 2013 MICDS water polo season,” said MICDS water polo coach, Don Casey. “A number of our athletes competed at the highest levels in the summer league, in particular the five who were able to qualify for and compete in the National Junior Olympics in San Francisco. We have a core group of Seniors who have shown great improvement. Our goalie, Jimmy Despain, a three year starter, is outstanding and our team defense should be one of the best in the area. I expect our combination of experience, talent, and a great work ethic to help us reach our goal of playing in the final four at the State Tournament.”
