Middle School Recognition Day Honors 5th-8th Graders

There was much to celebrate at Middle School Recognition Day last Friday, May 18th! Fifth through eighth grade students received awards for academic excellence, athletics, personal growth and much, much more.

The eighth grade class also collected money to give to a charity of their choice. They raised over two hundred dollars that they chose to present to The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Oonk Award
This award is given in honor of Donald Alfred Oonk, an accomplished athlete who graduated from St. Louis Country Day School in 1942. Donald was a skilled athlete with a deep passion for athletics. This award recognizes outstanding male athletes in the eighth grade. Recipients of the award show great effort, work hard to build their skills, and show sportsmanship to all.

The Jan deGreeff Jacobi Award is presented annually to 7th grade girls and boys who show compassion, look for the good in others and adhere to the Middle School Honor Code. The award is voted on by the 7th grade faculty and advisors.

James Schenler Wood Award
The James Schenler Wood Award is the highest academic award given to eighth grade students. Rather than awarding them with several individual academic awards, the Wood Award is given to the eighth grade students who, in the estimation of their teachers, have demonstrated outstanding scholarship in every single subject area. These students have also distinguished themselves as positive citizens of the school community, able leaders and caring members of their class.

Eliot Award
The Eliot Award was established in 1993 in memory of William Greenleaf Eliot, the founder of our school. It is given to one girl and one boy in each grade who showcase excellent school citizenship and provide the greatest positive contribution to their class. The winners of these awards are elected by a vote of their classmates and teachers.
