Parents Gather for Winter PA Coffee

The Parents Association (PA) Winter Coffee enjoyed a great turnout on Thursday, March 3. Parents gathered for coffee, breakfast, and mingling before heading into the Presentation Room to hear from PA and school leaders. Stephanie Kolman, Past President of the Parents Association, presented the new slate of PA leaders for the 2022-2023 school year, which was unanimously passed by the parents present at the meeting.

Head of School Jay Rainey shared updates on the new mask-optional policy at school. He also spoke about the war in Ukraine and how the School is navigating the best way to address student questions, conversations, and needs and encouraged parents to reach out to division counselors for information about the situation at home. Mr. Rainey then turned the floor over to the new Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning, Sally Maxwell.

Dr. Maxwell gave an excellent and engaging presentation on her background and how she arrived at MICDS. Sally has been interested in teaching for as long as she can remember, thanks to time spent helping out in her mother’s classroom as a child. She was “in charge” of her first classroom at 13 at a summer camp and has never looked back. Sally has taught in both public and independent schools and is thrilled to be at MICDS. She is excited about the data-driven environment at MICDS and is looking forward to planning the first Winter Term in 2024. Sally loves engaging with students and parents, so please feel free to reach out to her anytime!

Please give a warm welcome to the PA slate for the 2022-23 school year!

Thank you to all parents who attended and the PA volunteers who serve the School in this essential way!
