Presentations for Parents: Building Stress Resilient Brains

A highlight of the Parents Association Winter Meeting at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, in the Olson Hall Presentation Room will be an important presentation on “Building Stress Resilient Brains” led by Middle School Learning Specialist Mead Ploszay and Upper School English Teacher Chris Rappleye. Their presentation is a follow-up to the film Race to Nowhere, which was screened at MICDS last spring. The presentation will highlight the level of stress that students are under these days, the impact of both acute and chronic stress on the brain, how stress impacts our students and our ability to realize the mission of our School, and strategies to help students manage stress in order to become more stress resilient. Mead and Chris will also discuss ways in which schools and parents can help decrease stress by capitalizing on how schools and parents impact stress levels.

The MICDS Parent Network is sponsoring follow-up roundtable discussions of this topic, led by Mead and Chris, which will be held for parents on Tuesday, March 6, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, March 8, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. Both discussions will take place in the Olson Hall Presentation Room.

All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend!
