Fall Parent Welcome Coffee & Parents Association Meeting
SAVE THE DATE:  Thursday, September 1, 7:30 a.m. Coffee; 8:00 a.m. Parents Association Meeting in the Olson Hall Presentation Room
Please join us for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat – this is a great chance to greet new parents and see old friends.  This meeting will include remarks by Lisa Lyle, Head of School, and a communications presentation by David Nowak. All parents are welcome!

MICDS & Burroughs Homecoming Family Fun Run!

MICDS and Burroughs are joining together over Homecoming weekend to sponsor a Fun Run as a bonding experience prior to the big rivalry game.  The Run will originate outside Olson Hall and proceed south on Warson Road, east on Ladue Road, and south on Price Road culminating at a Finish Line Refreshment Tent on Burroughs’ campus.

It’s LOVE in the morning….WAR in the afternoon!

Saturday, September 10
8:00 a.m. registration, 8:30 a.m. start time, front of Olson Hall
Registration is $15 before September 6 and $20 on the day of the event.

Registration includes a t-shirt, refreshments at the Finish Line and a game giveaway.

Library Volunteers Needed!
We have a variety of ways for you to help the Library that will fit your schedule! We have monthly slots and twice a year spots. The monthly slots can be assigned on a day that works for YOU.
Monthly:

  • Re-shelve books
  • Shelf reading to make sure books are in the right place
  • Create new displays of books and CD’s
  • Bulletin board creation
  •  See those elusive teens in their own environs!

2 Times a Year:
Library organizing and cleaning day! Coffee and donuts will be supplied and for this one day experience – it will be a fun time to catch up with your friends while you help tidy up the library and do light cleaning.  Bring a friend!  Show up or zap me an email if you would like to be alerted as the day approaches to see if it fits your schedule.

Bookstore Volunteers

Arts Backers Membership
DEFINITION:  An individual who supports the arts curriculum and programs at MICDS in order to promote and foster an appreciation of the arts in our community and school. Arts Backers supports the visual art, theater, music, dance, and speech departments by providing promotion and publicity for the various MICDS arts programs in many ways.  Arts Backers organizes and supports the fine arts throughout the year with rehearsal dinners, music recitals, gallery receptions, speech meets and awards events.  Past donations to Arts Backers have helped purchase numerous Art Department equipment requests such as: a new kiln, microphones, CD duplicator, band/choral acoustical shell, banners, furnishings and much, much, more.

MICDS Autumn Music Recital

Attention all students in grades 5-8: Make plans to participate in the MICDS Autumn Music Recital this fall!  It is a rare opportunity to show off your musical talent, either as a soloist or as part of an ensemble, by performing on a musical instrument or singing a song of your choice in a casual atmosphere with other Middle and Upper School students, parents and faculty.  The event will be held this November in the Alumnae Room in the Middle School. Watch for further details in early fall.

Spirit Wear Closet – Give & Receive
The MICDS Spirit Wear Closet is now filling requests for middle school choir polos, PE clothing, boy’s navy blazers, and MICDS-logo sweatshirts, t-shirts and various spirit clothing.  Many sizes and styles are available, all at no charge.  Every order is fulfilled if the needed size is available.  To Give:  bring your gently used MICDS items to the Spirit Wear box in the MS checkered hallway or the US May Hall lobby.  To Receive: contact Mary Murawski at (314) 567-6530 or m.murawski@yahoo.com with your request; please specify your student’s grade and sizes that will work (Youth or Adult, S-M-L-XL, etc.)  Reminder:  all donations are final; unused items will be sent to a charity in Peru, sponsored by LS Spanish teacher Mrs. Shultz.

Parent Ambassadors Committee

Please join the Parent Ambassadors! The Admissions Office needs your help with many of their events for the upcoming school year. You can choose to be a host-greeter, and/or tour guide. All parents, including dads, are encouraged to get involved! Be on the lookout for the upcoming email survey to sign for specific dates and times that are convenient for you. The Parent Ambassador Training Seminar will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011 @ 8 a.m. in the MS Alumnae Room. The MICDS Open House (JK-12 grades) will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (details forthcoming). Place these important dates on your calendar. Cultures Within Committee

Cultures Within is a committee of parents celebrating our diverse community at MICDS by supporting and raising awareness of multicultural activities and learning opportunities that take place on campus. Help us celebrate our Cultural Heritage months: German Oktoberfest, Hispanic Month; Chinese New Year, Italian La Befana, French Mardis Gras, and the Latin Certamen: Junior Classical League competition. We need help in providing volunteers and support for the Diversity department (Erica Moore) and World Languages department (Patrick Huewe).

MICDS International Expo
The purpose of the MICDS International Expo is to promote, honor and celebrate MICDS’ growing cultural diversity with a multicultural family fun event sponsored by the US International Council and Cultures Within committee.  Parent Consuls & Student Ambassadors host each country so all of the “world travelers”, our guests, will learn about other cultures and traditions with interactive activities, educational displays, artifacts & food. The International Expo will be held Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Middle School …details are forthcoming.  Please review the flyer to obtain the preliminary listing of countries represented. We need your help to make this great event a fabulous success. There are many ways to provide help:

Donate disposable items:  ethnic snacks and food in disposable trays/dishes, decorations,  etc.

Loan Props: currency, costumes , travel brochures, posters, ethnic decorations, posters, artifacts, maps, books, music CD’s or DVD’s, flags,  traditional games, ethnic crafts, etc.

Volunteering:   Parent consuls: collect donated  and loaned items; Manage set up of 8 foot table representing country. Student ambassadors: produce Info board,  help with interactive activity of country, stamp passports, etc. Greeters/hosts:  guide guests , help with prize  and snack booths, etc.  Anyone interested in helping with this great event, or interested in getting more details, contact:
