Rams Run Virtual Homecoming Fun Run

About 50 Rams, Ram family members, and several dogs participated recently in the annual MICDS Homecoming Fun Run—this time conducted in a virtual format. Community members were challenged to trek 2.5 miles however they pleased. They could walk, run, push a stroller, ride a bike, or take the dog on a walk. As long as they moved in a forward direction, the distance counted!

Typically, the Fun Run occurs the Saturday morning of Homecoming Week before many of the varsity Homecoming matches and the Homecoming Carnival. The route alternates each year between running from MICDS to Burroughs and from running from Burroughs to MICDS.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic limited much of what could be done during Homecoming this year, it didn’t stop the Fun Run from adapting. This year’s virtual format offered a dedicated registration website where participants could register. Runners recorded their results after the race and even printed off their very own bib numbers. The race period also spanned over multiple days, from September 25 through October 4, so that participants could exercise whenever fit best into their schedules.

Like every year, all students received Homecoming t-shirts. For the Fun Run, many of them donned their Homecoming t-shirts and spirit wear for their virtual Fun Runs and spread Homecoming spirit wherever and whenever they decided to race. It was great to see so many families participate together in the race!

For some like Ellemieke Ferguson ’27, this is a tradition that they look forward to every year. This year’s virtual race marked the eighth MICDS Fun Run that Ellemieke has participated in!
