Strings Program Launches

The MICDS Strings Program has officially launched in the Middle and Upper School. Led by Andrew Israel in the Middle School and Erin Hamill and David Doherty in the Upper School, students of all skill levels have joined the program to practice and perform with their peers.

Students in this program will rehearse at various levels depending on skill, which will culminate in an all-school string recital. In the middle school, the groups are divided by beginner and intermediate levels, though one group of exceptionally talented 8th graders have formed a string quartet with instructor Andrew Israel.

“The advanced quartet will play with the intermediate strings class as section leaders, while also meeting for additional rehearsals to perform pieces ranging from Vitamin String Quartet to Antonin Dvorak,” said Mr. Israel.

The mission of the Middle School program is to prepare students for the Upper School program, which requires a minimum of 2 years of experience, while also bridging the gap between students who have been playing since a younger age.

The first all-school string recital will be December 19th. It will include performances by the beginning, intermediate, string quartet, and the Upper School.
