Amato Selected as MICDS' Scholar Athlete
Senior Julia Amato ’19 made the roster of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch‚s Scholar Athlete program! In its 53rd year, the program „honors one student from every area school, a requirement being that they participate in athletics and excel in the classroom.“ To learn more about the program, click here.
Julia was honored in the Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete event at Busch Stadium on May 9. She is also featured here on the STL Today website. Amato is highlighted as a National Merit Scholar Finalist, member of the Cum Laude Society, and first honors student along with her involvement in tennis, squash, track and field. She’s also recognized for her work as co-founder of the MICDS chapter of Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon and co-head of the MICDS Activities Committee. She’ll head off to Vanderbilt University in the fall and hopes to work in medicine or business.

Bundy Earns Accolade on US Lacrosse Magazine
Graham Bundy Jr. ’19 was featured in US Lacrosse Magazine as a Warrior/USL Player of the Month! This honor recognizes „the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West.“ Graham is in the spotlight for scoring his 400th point as an MICDS lacrosse player and 114 points and counting this season. Keep it up, Graham!
3 Nominations from the St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards
3 Students Earn Mention in "Solutions for Future Earth" Competition
Three MICDS students are being honored for their participation in the Molecular Frontiers Journal student competition on „Solutions for Future Earth.“ Congratulations to Sam Baumohl ’22, Palmer Mihalevich ’20 and Jonah Zacks ’21! Sam received the Exceptional Mention honor and was acknowledged during the Symposium on Planet Earth program while his poster hung at the conference. Palmer and Jonah received Honorary Mentions and have a chance for their essays to be included in an upcoming book which will be published by World Scientific. All three students served as Ambassadors to the program.
See their names on the official announcement which shares, „The competition, aimed at students between the ages of 13–18, drew submissions from students around the world who opined on a wide range of topics representing challenges or opportunities that they believe the planet will be facing ahead. The entries were reviewed by members of the Molecular Frontiers Journal’s Editorial Board and were judged according to their originality, presentation of concept, development of solutions, impact and feasibility of implementation.“

Boys Golf Advances to State
Our MICDS Boys Golf Team is advancing to state! They scored 319 points at the Class 2 Sectional 2 tournament on Monday at Bogey Hills Country Club and earned a spot at state with their second place victory.

Faculty Member Designs Set for Yale Italian Opera
Upper School Fine Arts Teacher Patrick Huber recently designed the Yale set for Luigi Rossi’s Orfeo, a Baroque Italian opera based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The opera was produced by the Yale Baroque Opera Project and directed by Yale professor Toni Dorfman.
Baroque opera, with all of its mythological characters and heightened language, can be challenging to stage for a modern audience. „Ms. Dorfman set our production on an 18th-century French sailing ship, becalmed and unable to proceed on its journey through the Pacific. The crew and passengers on the ship produce the opera to appease the gods and create a wind to fill their sails,“ shares Huber.

Mathematics Teacher Dr. Jody Marberry not only completed her doctorate in instructional leadership this year, but she also was recently published in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Express in an article titled „Here’s What Teens Say They Need.“ Read the article to see what Ms. Marberry says about what students are needing from schools to feel supported both academically and socially.
