Students Earn High Marks at MSHSAA State Music Festival

On May 2, 2015, vocal and instrumental students represented MICDS and performed at the Missouri State Solo and Small Ensemble Festival held on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. Adjudicators from around the Midwest listened to and rated our musicians based on MSHSAA standards. All students received state medals and certificates. To qualify for the state competition, the students earned a I (Exemplary) rating at the District Solo and Small Ensemble Festival held in March.

Violinist John Li ’15 was named a 2015 National YoungArts Foundation Winner in “Classical Music” for the second year in a row! Founded in 1981, the National YoungArts Foundation recognizes and supports America’s most talented 15 – 18 year olds in the visual, literary, and performing arts. This year, YoungArts named Winners from 45 states which were selected from a pool of more than 10,000 applications nationwide. The Winners were chosen through a multi-tiered, blind adjudication process and evaluated by celebrated masters in their artistic fields. Congratulations to John for receiving such a prestigious honor!
