The Arts are Alive at MICDS
Play. Sing. Act. Draw. Create. Build. At MICDS, the fine and performing arts are an integral component of the JK-12 curriculum. In fact, 100 percent of our students, in Junior Kindergarten through 12th Grade, study vocal and instrumental music, theatre, dance and the visual arts.
An array of courses and extracurricular opportunities in the arts lets students shine both individually and as part of an ensemble. And the programs are led by a one-of-a-kind faculty who are not only terrific teachers, but also talented artists in their own fields.
The vibrant fine and performing arts program is thriving in all divisions, as evidenced by the handcrafted masterpieces on display throughout the School, to standing-room-only crowds at theatre and band performances.
Our commitment to the arts is evident in our resources. Each of our three divisions has dedicated space for the fine arts where students can explore a wide variety of mediums, from ceramics to photography to digital graphics. The MICDS music and theater facilities are plentiful, too, with five theaters, a dance studio, and performance and rehearsal rooms for instrumental music and choir.
The artistic talents of the MICDS community stretch beyond our campus into the St. Louis community, nation and world. MICDS is proud to count among its acclaimed alumni, photographers, musicians, producers, actors, directors, singers and artists.
Arts Backers is a volunteer committee comprised of MICDS parents dedicated to the task of promoting and publicizing events and achievements related to the arts at MICDS. Arts Backers raises funds through membership fees to purchase "wish list" items for the MICDS Fine Arts Department of the Lower School, Middle School and Upper (all school divisions), along with receptions for many art events throughout the year.
